About the Ministry​

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) is the responsible body for supervising the transport, communications and information technology sector in the Sultanate of Oman, as its organizational structure has been restructured in accordance with Royal Decree No. 90/2020. Thus, the ministry seeks through its vision to have an integrated and enabling system to contribute to economic diversification, innovation and well-being. As a translation of this vision, the ministry is working to provide an advanced infrastructure for transport, telecommunications and information technology sector, which is safe and integrated with urban and economic development that responds to the requirements of the future and sustainability in order to achieve the future vision of Oman 2040.

The ministry proposes strategic policies and plans related to land and sea transport, communications and information technology, postal services, and space science and technology, in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of the state’s development plans. The ministry is also responsible for preparing draft laws and royal decrees related to its competencies, issuing regulations and decisions related to them, and ensuring follow-up on their implementation. In addition, the ministry seeks to represent the Sultanate in various regional and international events and to develop international cooperation in areas related to the ministry’s specialization.

In response to the rapid technological developments and ambition to keep pace with the competitive and pioneering future, the ministry launched the National Digital Economy Program (2021-2025). This program consists of nine executive programs, including the Policy and Executive Program for the Omani Space Sector (2023-2033), the Executive Program for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies (2023-2033), the Executive Program for Government Digital Transformation (2021-2025) and other programs.

Oman Vision 2040

Oman Vision 2040 is the national reference for economic and social planning for the period of 2021-2040, and the source of national sector strategies and five-year development plans. It was put in place under the wise guidance of His Majesty the late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, and carried forward by His Majesty Haitham Bin Tarik.

After being developed with extensive participation by the community, Oman Vision 2040 was approved by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik in 2020, then it was put into action as of early January 2021 and will remain in force till 2040.
